Spacey’s 21 gets guy

Sony Pictures has cast relative unknown Jim Sturgess to co-star alongside Kevin Spacey in their upcoming blackjack flick 21. The film, which seems like it has been in development for ever, follows the true story a group of MIT students who with the help of a professor (Spacey) team up to master card-counting and win millions in Vegas. The film is based on “Bringing Down the House: The Inside Story of Six MIT Students Who Took Vegas for Millions” by Ben Mezrich, which Spacey optioned in 2002 and has been trying to get off the ground ever since. Sturgess hasn’t been seen in much yet but has two major projects on the way - the Beatles musical ACROSS THE UNIVERSE and THE OTHER BOLEYN GIRL with Natalie Portman, Scarlett Johansson and Eric Bana. Directing 21 is Robert Luketic who recently ditched DALLAS and replaces Brett Ratner who circled 21 when it was titled BREAKING VEGAS. Production on the film is scheduled to begin in February.
